On Wednesday, October 16th 2024, Manou Gallo will lead a workshop at Montreux Jazz Festival on the Role of Female Instrumentalists in Africa.

The workshops are unique and privileged moments to meet musicians in an intimate setting. Every afternoon of the festival, artists talk about their sources of inspiration or demonstrate their virtuosity. From revered jazzmen to audacious innovators, the range of these encounters is wide and seduces a curious public.

Nicknamed “The African Queen of Bass” by Bootsy Collins, Manou Gallo impresses with her dazzling slap technique and unbeatable groove. Equally at ease in jazz, funk, or afro-pop, the Ivorian bassist has shared the stage with Wyclef Jean, Marcus Miller, and Manu Dibango. Her career took a major turn in 1997 when, upon arriving in Europe, she became the bassist for Zap Mama. Since 2003, she has toured with her own band and participated in numerous projects. With her fifth album, Aliso, Manou Gallo pays tribute to the African icons who have inspired her, including Fela Kuti.

Donโ€™t miss it!
